  • Are you a student leader who is passionate about supporting new students as they navigate their new Uni and find their community? The Students' Union is organising an SU Orientation Day on 30th May 2026 for students who are joining us as part of the April intake.


    As a SU Orientation Leader, you will lead a group of new students, alongside another lead, on a day dedicated to helping them network and play games together. If you are more interested in helping out the event preparation or set up, you can also sign up as a SU Orientation helper instead!

    Please note, we would encourage applicants who have a student leader, student support experience or have experience as a PG student or supporting PG students, such as a student group committee member, academic representative, peer mentor or have taken a student staff role in the university (e.g. Student Ambassador and Residential Adviser). We particularly welcome and encourage applications from all current PG students who can provide support and share their experience with new students!

    Join the Students’ Union as a Group Leader or Event Helper for our Orientation Day, a day of welcome activities, games and food to welcome the new April-intake students arriving from around the world.

    Group Leaders will:

    · Look after a group of 4-8 new students

    · Support group games

    · Lead students during campus scavenger hunt

    · Support shy students and boost morale

     

    Event Helpers will be supporting:

    · Event set-up

    · Food bar

    · Runner tasks

    · Signposting

    · Event take-down

    We’re looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteers to support new students during their time on campus and support the success of the Orientation Day.

    Whether you’re looking to welcome new students and be a friendly familiar face, gain experience in event support, work as a team with your peers or simply enjoy a vibrant day on campus, volunteering at Orientation Day is a rewarding opportunity that you don’t want to miss out on.

  • We are looking for a skilled and reliable volunteer to support the upkeep and development of our website. Use your digital skills to help individuals affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence to access the information and support they need. The role is flexible to suit you and can be done from the Freeva office or remotely, perfect for if you are away over the summer.

    What service will I be volunteering in?

    What might I be doing? 

    • Creating or updating web pages using WordPress and Elementor

    • Uploading and formatting new content 

    • Checking pages for broken links, formatting and consistency issues 

    • Supporting with landing pages for campaigns, events and fundraising activity  

    • Helping to improve accessibility and mobile responsiveness  

    • Suggesting ideas to improve navigation and engagement  

    If there’s something on the list you do not wish to do, don't worry, the list of tasks is flexible. Speak to the Volunteer Coordinator for more details. 

    What’s the commitment? 

    We are grateful for any amount of time you can spare but we’d love it if you could give around 3 hours a week on average for 6 months to a year. This is a flexible role that can fit around your availability. 

    Where will I be volunteering? 

    Remote or office based to suit you.

    The Freeva office is near to Leicester city centre & Leicester University campus. 

    What skills & experience do I need? 

    • Experience using content management systems and web builders, ideally Wordpress & Elementor  

    • Confidence editing webpages, including layouts  

    • Understanding of accessible design 

    • Good attention to detail 

    • Good communication skills 

    • Ability to work independently 

    What support and training will I get? 

    • You'll be given a full introduction to Freeva and our various services  
    • You’ll complete a suite of foundational e-learning modules 

    • You’ll be given ongoing support and training   

    What will I get out of it?

    Will I get expenses paid? 

    Absolutely, travel and other out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed. 

    Are there any other requirements?  

    • You’ll need to be 18 or over 

    • Freeva will arrange for you to have an Enhanced DBS check before you start 

    • We will ask you for two references 

    • If you have experienced domestic abuse or sexual violence, we ask that there has been a minimum of two years since the end of any formal support or treatment related to your experience. If you are unsure whether the timing is right, we encourage you to get in touch for an informal conversation. 

    • Our volunteer application process is robust due to the sensitive nature of the roles we offer 

    How do I apply? 

    Express interest through your SU portal and then you'll be emailed a link to an application form. You may be invited to an informal telephone chat or a volunteer interview.

    Volunteer interviews will likely take place in late May or June, either in person or online.

  • Join us at Opal22 as a volunteer for the Windrush High Tea Party, an annual community event full of music, food, and celebration of the legacy of the Windrush generation. Volunteers will support with tasks such as setting up and packing down, serving food to elders, assisting at the bar (age-dependent), selling raffle tickets, helping with children’s activities, and conducting guest surveys. This is a great opportunity to give back, develop teamwork and hospitality skills, and be part of a joyful, family-friendly day. Food and refreshments will be provided for all volunteers.

  • We are seeking a designer/content developer to create a comprehensive fundraising toolkit that supports our fundraising efforts across multiple channels. The toolkit should be practical, easy to use, and visually engaging, enabling staff, volunteers, and supporters to confidently plan and deliver fundraising activities.This role will involve both content development and design, ensuring materials are consistent, on-brand, and ready to be uploaded on to the Age UK Leicestershire and Rutland website for everyone to use.

  • The Environmental Champion highlights and promotes volunteering and sustainability within the University of Leicester. We are looking for a creative individual with innovative ideas, a passion for sustainability and lots of enthusiasm. They will be working with teams such as the Sustainability Council, creating volunteering and sustainability content and promote the Volunteering Hub to students.
