BUSCR Outing- 14th March 2026

40 of us in St Martin's in the Bullring!

On Saturday 14th March 2026, 5 members of LUSCR joined Birmingham, Nottingham, York, Bristol, Cambridge and Southampton ringing societies for a ringing outing in Birmingham!

The day commenced with St Philip's Cathedral 12 (31-0-21 in D), which were difficult bells to handle and quite loud! It was located nice and central in Birmingham, and was the first 12 bell tower for 3 of our ringers!

Next up, St Chad's Cathedral 8 (15-3-6 in F), where we had to go up in smaller groups and there was a very loud trap door! Slightly trickier bells but they sounded nice.

Then it was lunchtime, we had plenty of time to relax in the park near St Philip's cathedral and explore the market in the bullring

After lunch, we rang at St Martin's in the Bullring 16 (39-1-19 in C)! For most of our members, this was their first time ringing on 16 bells- whether having been ringing for over 6 months, or 9 years! Even with experience of ringing, 16 bells was still a unique experience and a highlight of the day!

Finally, after a rather long walk (magical mystery tour) we had our last tower visit, St Paul's 10 (12-2-13 in F#), which were much lighter than the other bells, so a different type of challenge. Albeit slightly less overwhelming than ringing on 16.

To conclude a very enjoyable ringing outing, the majority of us had some pizza before we departed Birmingham! A very enjoyable outing and we look forward to another outing soon!
