What can I do in my free time?  

We've created a list of things you can do in your free time in and around Leicester- we've done it in price order! 

 

Free: 

Botanical Gardens
Within the Uni grounds there is a botanical garden situated next to student accommodation in Oadby. They are near Beaumont house, and the Knoll and Hastings student accommodation. It’s a restored Edwardian garden with greenhouses and outdoor flowers spanning 16 acres of land.

Leicester Museum & Art Gallery
If you want to get to know some of Leicester’s stories, as well as viewing dinosaurs, the Den gallery and older galleries of ceramics and art. Why not take a look?  

Directions: Get dropped off by the University shuttle bus at the top of university road as it takes the first stop once passing the traffic lights from London Road, from there it’s a 5-minute walk to the museum.

£5-£10: 

Madison’s 2
This is a little cafe on London Road which offers cakes, coffees, teas, milkshakes, ice cream etc. As a student myself, I have visited a few times and believe it to be a lovely atmosphere with great food and drink. It’s completely up to you how much you spend in here. 

Price: £10 
Directions: use the University shuttle bus to get to the top of University Road when you have just turned off London Road and get dropped off, then walk back onto London Road cross over to the other side of the street and walk down the road. It's around a 5-minute walk or less from the bus drop off.

Gym/Swim
There are two student gyms around- one in Oadby near the student accommodation (Roger Bettles) and one near Fielding Johnson on campus (Danielle Brown). They both have a swimming pool with a sauna and steam room along with it. Also, they both have a gym area for weight training and cardio. You can also attend classes or chose to do badminton, tennis or football.

Mini Golf at Treetop Golf Leicester
This is in Leicester Town Centre near Turtle Bay and has a choice of either 18holes or 36.  

Prices:
18holes = £10.10 with valid student ID 
36holes = £15.80 with valid student ID

Gorse Hill City Farm
Just outside of Leicester City Centre is the farm which has over 100 animals for you to visit, including: pigs, sheep, goats, cows, horses, guinea pigs, rabbits etc.  

Transport: get bus number 47 and then 74 from Uni and then a short walk after this to the farm

Social Climbing Leicester
If you enjoy climbing, heights and an adrenaline rush why not give rock climbing a go!  

Travel: you can get the bus into Leicester City Centre near Highcross Shopping Centre, or you could do the 30-minute walk from Uni campus

£30-45: 

De Montfort Hall
There are comedy shows, live music, ballet and theatre productions you can go to, a real mix for every personality, and they're practically our neighbours!   

Travel: Maybe a 10-minute walk depending on where you are on the campus and if you’re in Oadby you could get the University Shuttle Bus.  
Price: average ticket price is around £35
